I can’t believe it’s fall guys! I feel like we all say that every time the holidays come around, but it has been such a wild year that it feels like summer was over so fast. Not complaining though. This is my favorite part of the year. So, in celebration of fall’s arrival I wanted to have a fun little adventure.
Owen and I decided to make our first trip of the year over to Spirit Halloween. We’re dressing up for Halloween this year which is pretty exciting, so we wanted to start scoping out the different costume choices we have. At the same time, Owen agreed to be the best of sports and let me take some pictures of him. He’s awesome for playing along and always being so supportive.
I brought my little 50mm lens, which meant it was easy to carry my camera in my purse and I like that it’s light. Once I got started, I wished I had my trusty 35mm lens. In a store you have less room to move around and the 35mm lens offers a wider angle. Even still, it worked out just fine. When we arrived our time was limited since we had somewhere else to be in an hour. It took me a few minutes to get comfortable because I wasn’t sure if it would be ok for me to take pictures in the store. Time quickly started to fly by. We were laughing and being silly and thankfully, no one minded.
As we walked around looking at the huge variety of hats, masks, fake weapons, full costumes, and decorations, I found several spots worth stopping to snap a photo. We seriously could’ve spent another hour there easily. I really wanted to get some photos, that not only documented the shopping trip, but celebrated the spooky holiday in the light-hearted way I love. Owen was perfect for that because anyone who knows him knows just how animated and fun he is.
I know some enjoy the truly scary horror side of Halloween, but I tend to prefer to skirt the edge of creepy and keep it all more on the cute side. I do like The Walking Dead, I’ve watched a few seasons of American Horror Story (pre psycho clowns), and my favorite video game ever is Bioshock. However, you’ll never catch me at a haunted house and if I do watch a scary movie it will likely involve a blanket or a pillow to quickly hide behind during the jump scares or gory bits. Basically, on Halloween night you can catch me on the couch with a bowl of candy watching Hocus Pocus.
I’m trying to get better about capturing any type of adventure we take. Whether it’s a big vacation or a festive trip to the Halloween store, I’ll bring my camera along and see what happens. I know I will be thankful that I documented all these things year from now.
