Baby Bear Newborn Session

Who is this perfect little guy? This is baby Jack. He was a dream to work with. All the cuddles, so many huge smiles (most when I put the camera down but I still love him), and he was very chill. Such a sweet little man.

If you’ve been following me you may have noticed that I don’t tend to take newborn photos. It’s a whole new world of photography I haven’t fully jumped into yet but when I was given the opportunity to take these photos I couldn’t pass it up. Jack’s mommy, Ashley, is one of my childhood best friends. We’ve known each other since kindergarten. I consider it a blessing that I was able to capture these photos of Jack when he was only 5 days old.

Before he was born I was working hard planning everything. Ashley was very open to me having creative freedom with this session because she’s awesome. I decided to go with a bear theme since it worked so well with his nursery. Lots of black and red buffalo plaid. Love.

Of course while I was planning this session I spent a while on Pinterest, a great spot for inspiration. Saw a few photos where photographers had put a newborn on a little shelf. I had to give it a try! There are so many factors at play to make this work. First, let me just say, in case anyone worried about the safety of Jack. I did not actually put him up on a shelf. Ha! Since you probably knew that shall we move on? Ok then… we did however lay him on the floor. We made sure everything was very safe. I had two people on the floor with the baby to make sure he could be soothed at a moments notice and to keep everything in place. We also had a space heater on for him so he didn’t get cold. He showed off some of his best kicks that he learned in mom’s belly while we were down there. We kept having to reposition the shelf but we were all very impressed so whatev. I think it turned out so sweet.

I could probably share every single picture I took. I just love how they turned out.

Ashley and Stephen, you made a beautiful little human. I’m so happy for you guys. I’m excited to watch him grow. I know you will be fantastic parents!

Jack, If you’re reading this someday… Yes, I had to put you in a bear hat. I don’t wanna hear any of your sass. (I know your parents so I know there must be a little sass happening) It’s probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I will show your future spouse. Yes, even the ones on the shelf. Love you!
